Initially commission to write a short string quartet reaction to Bernard Hermann's seminal score for Alfred Hitchock's 'Psycho' to act as a musical interlude for a project re-imagining the film through 12 different poets, I was then asked to create a score that would run alongside the entire piece. Initially performed at the Whitechapel Gallery with subsequent performances at Latitude Festival and the BFI.
"To mark the 50th anniversary of Hitchcock's Psycho, poet Simon Barraclough devised a poetic homage, slicing the film into 12 sections and allotting them randomly to 12 acclaimed poets. Each wrote a poem in response to their section and a new poetic version of the film emerged.
Poets Simon Barraclough, Dzifa Benson, Emily Berry, Isobel Dixon, Joe Dunthorne, Jane Draycott, Luke Heeley, Catherine Smith, Chris McCabe, Heather Phillipson, Richard Price and Matthew Welton perform, accompained by Bleeding Heart Narrative string quartet."
